The Department of Anaesthesia in DIFF Hospital is entrusted with the provision of safe and prompt anaesthesia care for thousands of patients who attend the hospital every year. These include patients having routine and emergent obstetric, gynaecological, general surgical, paediatric surgical, ENT and other procedures and especially, the hundreds of patients who undergo assisted conception procedures in the hospital every year. The department is also responsible for the provision of labour analgesia services (epidural), running the pain clinic, participating in patient education sessions and playing an important role in running the hospital’s intensive care unit. The department is staffed with experienced in-house consultant anaesthetists since 2009 and runs four operating theatres in the hospital. It has so far maintained a good track record of safe and quality service. The current staff strength of the department is 10 and the breakdown is a follows:

The department is richly endowed with up-to-date equipment like anaesthesia workstations and monitors, fluid infusion and warming equipment, patient warming equipment, suction machines, training manikins and a steady supply of high-quality regional anaesthesia equipment like spinal and epidural anaesthesia packs. There is also an excellent supply of a wide range of anaesthetic drugs that contributes immensely to the department’s very good track record of safe and quality service. The staff enjoys regular training opportunities both at home and abroad.
